WHO
WE ARE: Formed in 1997, the Friends of the Marin City Library is a
not-for-profit organization, run entirely by the efforts of its volunteer
members. The Friends’ mission is to generate support for the Marin
City Library and to build a strong link between the library and the
community. The primary purpose of the group is to implement program
activities at the library that will contribute to the general education and
well-being of the community, and to assist in obtaining financial support for
library operations.
WHAT
WE DO: Since its incorporation, the Friends have contributed to development of
the library’s material collections, facilities, and events
programming. We continue to provide a strong Author’s Talk series
for the library. The Friends have also provided financial support to the Marin
City WebStars, a teen technology training program run by the library.
VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES: The Friends of the Marin City Library staffs the County-wide
Friends' used book store, The Book Place, every fifth Tuesday, and a portion of the
proceeds from sales of used books on that day go to the Friends of the Marin
City Library.
We
also provide volunteers for the Sausalito Floating Homes Association Houseboat
Tours, and the Friends of the Marin County Free Library Annual Super Book Sale.
WHEN
WE MEET: Join us on the first Saturday of every month from 10 to 11 AM at
Marin City Library

BIBLIO-NEWS & EVENTS

Julian Klugman Memorial: November 1, 2008, Supervisor Charles McGlashan, County Library staff and County and Marin City Friends of the Library joined Stella
Klugman and her grandson, Devan, in celebrating the life of Julian Klugman.
Supervisor McGlashan read a County Proclamation attesting to all of Julian’s achievements in Marin City and the county as a whole. Julian’s community
efforts were many and varied. Quite a
few other members of the community also shared their memories of Julian.

Memorial
donations in his memory continue to be used to encourage teens to read and
spruced up the library entrance. Please stop by and see our lovely entrance,
the memorial plaque on the rock and the County Proclamation will be installed placed inside.
Donations to the Julian Klugman Memorial Fund continue to be welcomed.
Faces of Marin City: Photographs by Nina Winter have been installed on
the library walls near the reading area. These photos celebrate this community
of diverse families and individuals that rely on this little library for so
much. Thank you Nina for your wonderful photography.
